Step Away From That Jar

When I moved to New York I had three shelves in my pantry that were buried in spices, flours, and fancy oils and vinegars. Many had been used once, for a single recipe. When I packed up my kitchen I had to figure out what to do with all of those jars, white pepper, szechuan pepper, smoked paprika, garam masala, there were too many to count. Did they go in the garbage? Could I pass them along? Who knew, I certainly did not.

Despite knowing about Kickstarter for several years––and thinking it was a great organization, I just backed my first project. I'm not backing it because it's a friend of mine (which it is) or because I have extra money to spare (which I don't), but I'm backing it because it's a simple idea that solves a sometimes painful problem. Buying expensive jars of spices that you may only use once. It drives me crazy, and I don't think I'm alone.

Seasonal Spices just launched today, check out the video below, it's pretty adorable. Or just go straight to the Kickstarter page to join me.
